Our little football player

Cameron can make anything look cute! We went today to get it fitted and an hour and a half later we left with it. Come to find out they don't cost $1,800 they are $2,600.....sheesh! Let's just hope it works for him. The guy seemed to think he will only need to wear it for 3 months. We go back next week to make sure it fits him right.
Side view...there is no chin strap so they way you keep it on is with the velcro. I picked the white velcro so it didn't stand out as much.

The back view...it is clear so the doctor can see his head and see how it is growing. There are little holes in it to let air in. He said it gets really really hot under the helmet and they sweat a lot and can get rashes...great! Good thing we are doing this during the cold months. I guess having the helmet might make his hair lay down instead of standing up?! He doesn't seem to be bothered by the helmet. He fell asleep on the ride home, so that's a good thing. Discovering things...

Look what I found! I found my thumb and my little piggies...Now that I am 5 months old I've started doing a lot of things!

Buuurrrrrr!!

I am not ready for winter...I don't feel like I really got to enjoy summer. I was pregnant and then had Cameron and didn't get outside to enjoy it. No mountain biking or waterskiing for me! It snowed the last two day and has been freezing. Cam and I stayed inside the first day it snowed. We got about 2" on our lawn that day. We ventured out the next day though...we had a lunch/play date planned at a friend's house. We didn't have to go very far, she lives in our neighborhood but I bundled up Cameron anyway. I though he looked so cute with his little beanie on.

5 months old!!

Cameron has been working on rolling over the last few days, but it was usually with help. Until today!!! He rolled over from his back to his stomach and he must have figured out that he could see other things because he wouldn't stop doing it. He hasn't got the hang of rolling from his stomach to his back so I would give him some help and then he would immediately roll onto his stomach again. I hurried to get the video camera and luckily he did it a few more times. Especially since daddy missed it, he had to go to a meeting tonight and didn't get to see Cameron's first big accomplishment.

I am so excited for Cameron. He is at such a cute stage in life and it is so much fun to watch him learn every day. He has mastered sleeping through the night and usually goes to bed without fussing at all...he just needs his little snuggle bear. He usually takes one good nap in the morning (1-2 hours) and then struggles with his 2 afternoon naps. I am lucky if he takes one half hour nap in the afternoon! He drools like crazy and puts everything he can get his hands on in his mouth. He loves to pull mommy's hair too!! He talks to all of his toys and it is hillarious because he gets so serious and just talks to them for like 10 minutes without stopping! Cameron is such a sweet kid and so much fun. His smile melts my heart and his laugh is contagious...I find myself laughing most of the day! Thanks for making my life so much more fun and special Cameron!

Halloween PARTY

Grammy J had her annual Halloween party and Cameron got to join in on the fun this year!! He was the cutest little skeleton you will ever see!

After taking pictures the kids went on a hunt around the house to find a bag with their name on it...everyone's bag had a bunch of fun presents in them. Cameron got a lot of things he needed!

Frosting cupcakes was the activity after eating dinner...pepperoni pizza shaped like jack-o-lanterns.

I helped Cameron frost his cupcakes and he helped himself to the frosting! You can't put anything in front of him without him grabbing it. Luckily I got his hand before he put it in his mouth. Black frosting stains your skin by the way...

Playing a mean game of Halloween Bingo with prizes from the "treasure chest"

Spencer picked a mustasche out of the "treasure chest" for one of his prizes for winning Halloween Bingo. After bingo the kids played pin the mouth on the pumpkin (Lindsie and Mallory tied) and got prizes. Then we all went to the family room with the lights out and listened to Grammy tell a scary and a funny Halloween story. Cameron was so tired he fell asleep on the ride home. Thanks Grammy J (and Grampy) for helping make such FUN memories for the grandkids. We look forward to next year's party!!

Poor little guy!!

I feel so bad for Cameron! When we went to his 4 month well-check, the pediatrician commented that his head was showing an asymmetrical shape. She said it is very common, but it can be corrected if we catch it in time...so she recommended we go to a specalist. I took Cameron to the Dr. she referred us to a few weeks ago & he said Cameron has Positional Plagiocephaly and recommended we try Plagiocephalic Applied Pressure Orthosis also known as Cranial Remolding. I was pretty worried and nervous about all the big words, not to mention we were at Primary Children's Medical Center...the biggest hospital in the Country known to treat children with major medical issues. Although I left there a little scared I definitely felt blessed because it could be a lot worse. At least this is just a "cosmetic" issue and not a major health problem or serious medical condition like I saw with all the other kids up there! We are blessed for sure! We went last week to a place called Fit-Well Prosthetic & Orthotic Center for a consultation and to start the paperwork for the insurance...since it will be over $1800 we wanted to make sure the insurance would help out!

They called me the following week and said the insurance would cover most of it and so we went in today for the Casting of his head so they can make the "helmet". He was in his diaper and they put a bib on him and a really tight nylon thing on his head. I thought it was too tight since his eyes were pulled back until they were slanted and his cheeks were pushed out so chubby! I couldn't help but laugh though, he was such a good sport and was totally smiling at the guy and talking to him. This was the preparation before the messy casting part...

The guy got out the plaster and cast stuff and went to town making a mold of his head.

It got pretty messy and I had to wash him all off before I could put his clothes back on him & gave him a bath when we got home. His patience wore out after 15 minutes or so...he had to sit there and let it dry for awhile and he started crying. I felt so bad for him. We go back in 2 weeks for the final fitting and then he has to start wearing the helmet for 23 hours a day. I can only take it off of him to give him a bath. They said the treatment takes 3-6 months and we have to go back every week or so for follow-ups. I have a feeling he isn't going to be too happy about it. I tried telling him not to be embarassed, it was football season and he would fit right in. I think we are both a little worried people will stare and be rude about it.

Cameron is almost 5 months and is continuing to grow cuter and smarter every day. He is such a happy little boy and smiles all the time at everyone. He loves to laugh and smile, he has such an easy-going personality. People always say they have never seen a happier baby and can't believe how interactive he is. I am happy and relieved to report he hasn't thrown up in over a month...I'm crossing my fingers that his little system has outgrown the problem.

He is grabbing at everything and anything. He has learned to pull at things to him and of course straight into his mouth. Cameron loves sitting in his saucer and watching the Baby Einstein videos. He gets so excited he squeals and laughs...he has his favorite parts! It's fun to see how much he is learning and all the new things he can do each day. He reaches for his toys that are hanging from his car seat and holds onto them. We have been practicing rolling over...it's a slow process, but he actually rolled over from his stomach to his back all by himself once and was laughing. He is so much fun and so stinkin cute it makes me want to have another one just like him (in a few years...)

Lunch with BFF!

Cameron and Quinn met for lunch at Training Table today. Quinn was so excited for cheese fries...his expression says it all. Cameron was drooling at the thought of cheese fries...his shirt says it all.

Cameron felt like a big boy sitting in a high chair like his BFF Quinn. He wanted to show off his core muscle strength since he's only 4 1/2 months old. We can't wait to meet for lunch again....really soon :)

Fast Learner

At Cameron's 4 month check up the pediatrician suggested we start letting Cameron "cry it out" and go to sleep on his own. She was surprised I was holding him every day for him to take naps! Well, I talked to Jeremy about it when he came home from work and we decided to start that night. We laid him down and after 1 minute of him screaming and crying I couldn't take it...I caved and started to think of excuses. I told Jeremy we couldn't start it tonight because "we didn't know what we were doing...maybe we should wait because the cousins are all coming over to sleep in a few days and we don't want to have to worry about doing this while they are here...we didn't give him any warning..." But the one that worked was "the poor guy got shots today and isn't feeling good, we can't torture him with this too!" I knew even if we didn't start that night, inevitably we would have to start sometime. We ended up starting the whole "cry it out" thing last Sunday. It has been one week and Cameron is sleeping like a champ! He is such a good boy and a fast learner. He hated the idea at first and so did I. He cried the first night for 40 minutes...I wanted to cry too, I felt so bad I was scared that we didn't know what we were doing. I started to question the decision but more so because we really didn't know what we were doing...I asked Jeremy "can we go in and at least let him know we are here? Can we give him a binki? Are we supposed to never go in the room?" I started to panic, I didn't want to un-do what we had started and create more of a problem for ourselves. So I began calling friends, the first 2 I tried weren't home...I called another friend that said she really didn't have to do this with her kids because they naturally slept on their own. Really?! So I called my sister Margo, I knew she did this with Lindsie and would know something about it even if it was 10 years ago. Meanwhile, Cameron is still screaming bloody murder and I feel so horrible I want to call DCFS on myself! Thank heavens Margo answered her phone and gave me some advice and information. She told me she used the Ferber method and I quickly looked it up online. I read about the method for less than 30 seconds. All I needed to know I read in the first paragraph...it said something about going in and "comforting" your child and "soothing them by letting them know you are still here." I immediately went into his room and rubbed his head and told him I was here and loved him. I might have cheated because I gave him a binki, but he immediately stopped crying and fell asleep right after that! The next day he took 3 naps and went down without crying once! The next few days were off and on crying, but it never lasted more than 1 minute. We have continued to wrap him up in his straight jacket because if we don't he moves his arms all around and wakes himself up. He has turned into Houdini lately, every time I go in to get him after he wakes up he has managed to escape out of his straight jacket. I really have no idea how he does this...there are several velcro straps and he is wrapped very secure! He seems so proud of himself that he can get his arms out and have some freedom. I have felt so much love this week for Cameron and I didn't think I could possible love him any more! I am soooo grateful for him and the joy he brings to my life. He is such a special spirit and is so smart!

I took Cameron to the movie Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs last night with my mom, Michele, Janessa & Spencer (my dad and Jeremy went to the priesthood meeting). I thought I was going to have to stand to the side or in the back and hold him because he would be fussy, but instead he watched the whole movie! He was glued to it. He sat in my lap and played with his hands while he just stared at the screen. I had more fun watching him than the movie, his eyes would get big and he would smile. I was worried that he would be too stimulated to go to bed, since he stayed awake through the whole movie and it was 8 when we got home. But he surprised me again and went right to sleep. Maybe it wore him out :)
